Human Rights Act (external link)

The United Kingdom signed and ratified the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). (external link) This Convention is a binding international agreement that the UK helped to draft and has sought to comply with for over half a century. European Convention on Human Rights. Since coming into force on 2 October 2000, the Human Rights Act has made rights from the ECHR (the Convention rights) enforceable in our own courts.
