Independent review by the Healthcare Commission
A key element of the Healthcare Commission’s approach is
- reviewing the patient’s whole experience rather than having separate reviews for each organisation.
The new system for independent review by a single body with one case manager covering the whole complaint, allows the Healthcare Commission to conduct a single review to cover all aspects of the complaint.
The new arrangements for Independent Review as set out in the Complaints Regulations (2004) do apply to primary care practitioners, so complaints involving GPs do not have to be dealt with separately.
The Healthcare Commission is committed to ensuring that independent stage will be harmonised as far as possible with procedures operated by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and Mental Health Act Commission to enable joint reviews where appropriate.
